PM Kishida Congratulates Hun Manet on Becoming Cambodia's New PM

PHNOM PENH: Japanese and Cambodian Prime Ministers Strengthen Ties and Cooperation During a recent visit to Indonesia for ASEAN-related Summit Meetings on September 7, Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio engaged in a 30-minute Summit Meeting with the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet. The meeting aimed to further enhance their countries' relations and cooperation. Here's a summary of the key points discussed:

Prime Minister Kishida congratulated Prime Minister Hun Manet on his appointment and expressed a strong desire to bolster the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" between Japan and Cambodia. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to upholding a free and open international order based on the rule of law.

Japan expressed its interest in strengthening security cooperation through dialogue between the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and the Royal Cambodian Army. They also discussed the possibility of visits by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to the Ream Naval Base. Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the significance of security cooperation and welcomed the port calls by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

Prime Minister Kishida conveyed Japan's intent to continue supporting Cambodia's economic and social development. He emphasized the importance of utilizing Japanese technology in the digital sector. Both leaders agreed to work closely together on regional and international issues, including addressing North Korean nuclear and missile concerns, the abductions issue, and reforming the United Nations Security Council.

This meeting reaffirms the strong ties between Japan and Cambodia, with a focus on cooperation in various areas, from security to economic development and digital technology, all aimed at fostering peace and prosperity in the region.
